desu - is náni - what

kami - paper tsukue - desk (pronounced tske)
Hai - yes mo - too/also

1. Kore wa hon desu - this is a book.
2. sore wa kami desu ka? - Is this a paper?
3. Hai, sore wa kami desu. - yes its a paper.

When its a Question you always add "ka" at the end.
The tiny word "wa" is only a topicmarker, it means nothing special, but if you are gonna use a setence with "mo" than you take away wa and replaces it with mo, for exemple:

Kore mo kami desu ka? - Is this also a paper?

Kore wa hon desu - this book is! O.o;

Okay now you wounder what I am doing eeh?! XDD;; Well, the word "desu" is -ONLY- going to come at the end of a setence, never ever before or in the mittle or whatever! Only at the end.

Ohayõ Gozaimasu - Good morning
Konnichi wa - Good afternoon
Konba wa - Good evening
Oyasumi nasai - Goodnight
Sayo nara - Farwell (You only use this when you never are gonna see the person again or like you won't see the person after a year or so, to just say bye that means you will see eachother tomorrow again or some day soon, use "Mata ne")

Watashi - I
Anata - you
-san - Mr, Miss, Mrs
ano kata - he/she
Watashi no - Mine (just added that since it might be usefully for you who wanna combinate setences)

No - Means that it BELONGS to someone... for exemple:

Kore wa watashi no neko desu - This is my cat.
Sore wa anata no neko desu - That is your cat.
Are wa ano kata no inu desu - that over there is his/hers dog.
